About Us:

The Moon & River Cafe has been in Schenectady for over ten years, serving a mostly-vegetarian menu and known for it's coffee, "dark and delicious".
There is entertainment nightly, usually free and usually starting at 7pm. (click "When" (on the menu-bar) for schedules.)
The Cafe (at 115 South Ferry Street, Schenectady, NY 12205 - (518) 382-1938) is open daily 9am to 9pm.
The Cafe is home to the RockStar Open-Mic with Dan Goodspeed hosting the area's longest running open mic (pdf file), Sundays at 7:30pm. (Signup early)

Richard Genest, the proprietor of the cafe, operated the famous and former "Mother Earth's Cafe" in Albany, after moving from Ithaca, where he founded the ABC Cafe over 30 years ago.
Everyone is welcome at the cafe, even if no purchase is made, but all are encouraged to give appropriate gratuities to the performers, who work only for tips.

With entertainment 7 nights a week, what kind of music can you expect to hear? blues, classical, country, electronic, dance, electronica, funk, gospel, grunge, hip hop, jazz, Latin American, metal, progressive rock, reggae, punk rock, rhythm and blues, rock, ska, and more.

Looking up the street to the left (south), one can catch a glimpse of our neighbor, "Slicks' Tavern" and a block further away is State Street. The Mohawk River is 2.5 blocks north of the Cafe.
People of all ages and walks of life visit our cafe, and while some enjoy a quiet book while sipping their tea, it is not unusual to hear or participate in a lively discussion about politics, the cost of gas, religion, the correct serving temperature of beer, or any other imaginable topic. Our guests are an eclectic bunch. Join us!
